Just Don’t Do It

Some days you come across information that is so great it is worth sharing.  Well, instead of forwarding this blog to a few of my friends, I have decided to share it with everyone!

5 Formerly Cool Design Trends by Design Shack.
Stop Now!  No longer Use the Graphic Design Tricks:

  1. Bevel and Emboss – it is so easy and you know you always want to – just say no!
  2. Web 2.0 Gloss – the button that looks like it actually a 3D button coming off of the screen – I’ll admit, I have spent hours to get that gloss just right.
  3. Lots of Cursive Text – I love a good cursive text, but not in graphic design – unless it is a simple application, of course.
  4. The Burst – this is what we all used to do years ago when we made posters selling lemonade.  Your career has come a long way, shouldn’t your design?
  5. Dramatic Drop Shadow – I am so guilty of using this one.  What will make this word POP?  Oh – I know, a drop shadow.   I’m will challenge myself to be a little more creative.

About dryinkdesigns

A marketing and business development background is the foundation for Mandi Boedicker’s passion for creating memorable branding support for a number of clients. Initially a graphic designer by trade, Boedicker’s marketing experience in the construction industry sparked a passion for networking and community partnerships. Dry Ink Designs was a natural next step. Boedicker’s freelance client work had spanned over ten years already while maintaining a full-time career, so she turned her creative energy into a career that benefitted the relationships she was building. Strengths in calligraphy, painting and photography soon grew into strengths in corporate identity strategy and marketing/communications support.
